Staffs of Biophysics Department
The Department of Biophysics had been
created at Centenary Campus, Bose Institute
in September, 1983.

Main Institutional Projects

Structure, function, dynamics and characterisation of macromolecules and molecules of biological interest.
Main Academic Activities & Interests

Molecular organization & Structural Recognition.
The structural basis of biological function.
Crystallographic structure and modeling ofprotease system to understand differential binding affinity, key to specificity in biology specially for protease drug design protocol . Calotropin DII, a thiol Protease, is solved and electron density map & final refinement is completed.
Co-crystallization and structure elucidation of small model complexes of amino acids and nucleotides in their supramolecular association have been done to understand molecular recognition in biology.
Difference in cognate/noncognate tRNA - tRNA Synthetase interaction has been linked to a conformational change.
Molecular basis of cooperativity in l-repressor operator system
Development of a model for protein electron transfer.
Installation of a functional 500 MHz FT-NMR Spectrometer for various structural work.

Major Instrumental facilities
  • A 500 MHz FT-NMR Spectrometer
  • X-ray unit with camera
  • fluoescence spectrometer
  • FPLC
  • HPLC
