ANALYTICAL
INSTRUMENTS
FACILITY
BOSE INSTITUTE
1) Sophisticated Analytical Instrument facility (S.A.I.F.) ( Formerly known as Regional Sophisticated Instrumentation Centre) at Bose Institute is now 30 years old and is one of the first four such facilities set up by the Department of Science & Technology(DST), Government of India in early 1978.
2) The concept of the RSIC at Bose Institute evolved around the needs of scientists and research personnel engaged in research in the physical and biological sciences in the eastern region of the country. The emphasis was on housing instrumentation facilities in the same place so that the needs of contemporaneous research activity in obtaining complementary data from various sources could be met. Scientific and technical personnel staffing the center were to provide necessary consultancy and assistance whenever required. The instruments at the centre are updated from time to time, keeping pace with the advancement of science and technology and the requirements of the regional users.
The overall management of the RSIC is carried out by a center management Committee comprised of representatives from various institutions, representatives of DST, the Director of the Institute and the Scientist-in-Charge of the Centre. The funds for the procurement and maintenance of the instruments are provided by DST while the infrastructure is provided by Bose Institute.
Information
about the services presently available may be obtained from the RSIC office at
the main campus of Bose Institute at Rajabazar or via
electronic mail addressed to saif@bosemain.boseinst.ac.in.
.
3) Apart from service SAIF also provides the necessary training for various instrumentation services to the students of College, Universities, educational Institutions, as well as to the technical personnel attached to Govt. R&D Organisations and different industries.SAIF also holds workshops, seminars, Symposiums etc.from time to time on different instrumentation services with a view to educating the people about the instrumentations of their requirement.
